First thing in the morning.
After each feeding.
After or during playtime.
Midday/early evening/overnight
Right before bed.

We can help the puppy to remember what these potty breaks are for by using some of these routines with our puppies before they leave for new homes.

Offer potty breaks (either by taking puppies to the litter box area, or an outside toilet area) at these times, and others at your discretion.

First thing in the morning. Take puppies to the potty area of choice and give treats to each puppy as it voids.

After, or during, a play, enrichment, or training session, take puppies to the chosen potty area and treat for voiding.
Around lunch time, repeat.
In the evening before going to bed, rouse the puppies and have another potty break.

✅ Be sure when you wake puppies up, or take them for a potty break that you always follow a definable routine you can teach to your puppy buyers. For example, it can be as simple as:

Potty.
Treat.
Praise.
Activity.

We want our puppies to leave us having learned that they potty before play, because this is a big part of the house training plan later. Sending a schedule home with each puppy is a huge help to the new owners.
