You have probably collected most, if not all, of the required supplies as you have prepared to bring your puppy home.
While it’s impossible to create a detailed supply list for Confident Crating because the differences in puppy size, age, owner lifestyle, living environment, preferences and etc here is a general list of supplies you will need for this class.
We assume you have basic puppy raising supplies already (things like collars, leashes, clean up, food/treats, toys and etc) and those will usually not be mentioned here.
Supplies needed vary based on your living spaces, the age, and size of your puppy.
- Bedroom Crate (some prefer a full size crate for the adult version of your puppy, others prefer a small crate that will fit right on the bed)
- Daytime Crate (Can be smaller puppy sized crate or larger if you are not using a playpen)
- X Pen (optional but very recommended) for daytime confinement.
- Baby Gates (if using a puppy safe room instead of an x pen)
- Bed for each crate.
- Mechanical button or box clicker
- Wide variety of training bait (low, medium, high value).
- 7 boxes to hold puppy toys for each day of the week.
- Sheets or cardboard sheets to cover the side of the playpen, or other visual blocks.
- At least 7 soft material type puppy toys, one for each day of the week.
- At least 7 low value chews: Nylabones, Benebones, or other non edible nylon type chews
- At least 7 toys for self amusement, squeak toys, balls, other toys that roll or move.
- At least 7 pacifier type food toys.
- Assorted hooks, eye hooks, bolt snaps, waterproof underlayment, and etc as needed to assemble and secure your playpen.
Pacifiers: a wide variety of chews and pacifiers will be needed throughout the course.
Litter Box Supplies: If you choose to use a litter box as part of your over arching house training plan (definitely recommended for puppies under 4 months of age) you will need a few supplies for that.
- Litter Box appropriately sized for your puppy (ie, large enough to enter and turn around in).
- If using a litter box overnight: a litter box sized to fit in the large nighttime crate.
- Supply of litter box substrate such as puppy litter pellets, or hay pellets.
Examples of puppy set ups can be found below. Some with litter boxes some without. Observe for points of escape such as furniture or crates puppy’s can climb onto to jump out of the pen, pens that are too short for an athletic puppy or for a growing puppy.
